The Merced River flows through a very narrow chute below Merced Lake. Signs of the ferocity of spring runoff are clear, and the granite has a rough texture and a warm brown stain underfoot. Looking West toward the Valley just after sunset, the colors of the sky reflect off the polished granite slope in the distance.
